We are looking for a Commercial Legal Associate with a strong commercial background (licensing, distributorships in particular) and a solid understanding of compliance issues, particularly AML/CFT matters. The ideal candidate will be assisting both the Business Development and Compliance teams to ensure commercially sound contract support and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Functionally, this individual will, among other things, assist in (i) Supporting the Business Development team in commercial contract negotiations and drafting; (2) Supporting the Compliance team in policy reviews, reporting, and enforcement; (3) Investigations and Ongoing Surveillance; (4) Regulatory Change Management.

Summary & Responsibilities
The Business Development team is responsible for negotiating distribution, licensing and other commercial contracts to help build our business. The Compliance team is responsible for coordinating PUNDI X’s enterprise-wide efforts in Anti-Money Laundering & Combatting the Financing of Terrorism (“AML/CFT”) and government sanctions and compliance efforts. The successful candidate will support both teams.

What you’ll do

• Draft, negotiate, review, advise on and update agreements, templates and any other documents (such as distribution and licensing agreements, agreements with third party service providers) and review with other internal and external counsel where necessary. Instruct and consult with external legal counsel when required to assist the business to resolve any legal/regulatory-related issues.
• Develop and maintain a sound understanding and knowledge of applicable legal/regulatory requirements affecting the business and receive training for ongoing development.
• Participate and give assistance in respect of all ad-hoc projects, and produce reports regarding material projects/tasks when required.
• Track deadlines.
• Advise on business strategy in new markets.
• Advise on local crypto laws.
• Render assistance in all other matters as directed.
• Help with presentations (PowerPoint etc) as required.

What you’ll need

• 3-4 year post qualified lawyer or super paralegal with strong commercial background.
• Interest and experience in fintech, blockchain, licensing and regulatory matters.
• Working experience in AML compliance.
• Reasonable understanding of cryptocurrency and various investment products.
• Strong analytical, investigative, risk assessment and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize demanding workflows, detailed-oriented and well organized.
• Ability to take ownership, work independently and yet still be team-oriented.
• Ability to adapt to new changes and new challenges.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel. Experience in external database searches, such as World Check, Factiva, and Lexis/Nexis is helpful.
• A can-do attitude and willingness to adapt to the demands and ambiguities of a rapidly evolving industry.
• Native level English (written and spoken); Written and spoken Chinese (Mandarin) a plus since the position will likely be located in Taiwan.
